A sad day is upon us, friends, as it seems as though Nintendo’s long running magazine Nintendo Power will come to an end. A relic of a bygone era before the rise of this Internet business we are all so enamored with, Nintendo Power coming in the mail every month was for a time the best way to learn anything about upcoming Nintendo games from a completely unbiased source.
Apparently, as this Ars Technica article reports, among declining circulation numbers and Nintendo being “difficult to work with” according their source, the company has decided to put the magazine into a viking ship, push it out to sea, shoot an arrow into the sun to acquired fire arrows, and then subsequently light the ship on fire.
If you happen to be one of the 475,000 subscribers, no word yet on what happens to your money, but as an update to the original article describes: editors are working to make the last edition be something special. Maybe they will send you a free Wii U! You heard it here first.
The subscription that came to my house passed hands from my older brother to me throughout the late 80’s and into the 90’s. I do know for a fact that as a child I would have strangled some games without the magazine and their “Game Atlas”es. We had the NES, Gameboy, and SNES versions of these player’s guides, and I would reference them in need but also to check out other games that I didn’t own. I knew so many secrets as a kid for games I had never played. What a time.
