The Video Game Awards, or VGAs (now VGX), just had their show this last weekend, and although they attempted to tone down the celebrity garbage and cringeworthy moments of past years, many would argue that the show was still lacking. As much as I want to watch some guy yell “potato” over and over into a mic, I just kind of don’t.
Fortunately, there is a video game awards show out there that doesn’t pander to the lowest common denominator and gives our favorite pasttime the credibility it deserves. And that show would be the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Games Awards from our friends over the pond.
Unlike VGX, where five guys ad libbed about how great shooting walls were in GTA:V (yes, that happened), the BAFTAs are presented in a room full of folks in tuxes and dresses, and the dialogue doesn’t remind you of why some people look down on video games as an immature waste of time. And while they sure do love their soccer games and that is super weird, the British have a much better awards show than anything we can apparently put together.
Below are three videos showing all of the 2013 BAFTA Games Awards. Watch them and wonder how much better they would be if Joel McHale stood around making jokes about how only fat nerds play video games.
