In a live stream announced just a few hours before it happened, Nintendo showed off a new, larger 3DS to accompany the now horrible and terrible regular 3DS that you will want to throw away immediately. But can you guess what is still missing?
If you guessed “No additional analogue pad,” then you are amazing at looking at the image above. With a collective sigh heard ’round the world, the question immediately uttered by anyone who cares was: “Why? Why is there no extra slide pad? …Oh, it’s because of greed? You want to sell ANOTHER Slide Pad Pro accessory? That’s nice, thanks.” Now, they didn’t mention anything about a new, larger Slide Pad Pro add-on, but surely it is coming down the line making this new 3DS XL even XL-ier.
The Nintendo 3DS XL will be priced at $199 and launch alongside New Super Mario Bros. 2 an August 19.
The little streaming event tonight also threw out the names of a few 3DS titles that are coming down the pipeline. The titles mentioned are some that we heard about from E3, but does include a few nice surprises:
Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate
Skylanders Giants
Adventure Time: Hey, Ice King! Why’d You Steal My Garbage?!
Lego Lord of the Rings
Scribblenauts Unlimited
Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion
Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed
Kindgom Hearts Dream Drop Distance
Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask
Art Academy
New Super Mario Bros. 2
Fire Emblem: Awakening
The next Smash Brothers title is still in the works, and now the team is partnering with Namco Bandai. Nothing was shown about the game, but it is nice to simply hear its name once in a while.
For the Wii, two games were mentioned: Kirby’s Dream Collection: Special Edition and Pikmin 2.
For the DS: Pokemon Black 2 and Pokemon White 2
Nothing was mentioned about Animal Crossing, but it is still out there somewhere.
